Drape forming begins with a sheet of plastic which is clamped into a carrier . The carrier is placed in an oven for a specified period of time which causes the plastic sheet to soften. The carrier then transports the softened plastic sheet to a molding area where it is lowered onto a mold. A vacuum is applied to the mold which causes the plastic to form to the molds surface. Drape forming is the most common type of thermoforming and is suited for a broad range of applications. |
